U.S. colleges and universities may be owned either by the state or a state, or by individuals or organizations. This factor has no definite effect on the quality of education, but it does affect its cost.

Public universities in the United States.
Make up the majority in the country. They receive funds from the state government. A number of such universities are part of the public university system (they have the same administration and management staff, but campuses are located throughout the state). This includes SUNY, which has more than 60 campuses throughout New York State.

Tuition costs at such universities are usually lower, but may differ for U.S. and international students.

Private Universities of America
This type of higher education institution is the most popular and prestigious in the country. Some of the best known private universities include California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Harvard University, Yale University, Johns Hopkins University, and others. These universities are highly respected throughout the world, but it cannot be said that they are unequivocally better than all non-profit universities. Some state universities can give them a serious challenge, for example the University of Michigan, the University of California Los Angeles and others. They enjoy great prestige and
respect.

It is usually cheaper to attend a public university, but private universities also offer a variety of scholarships and have special assistance funds that can greatly reduce the cost of tuition for the student. When applying it is important to familiarize yourself with all offers, especially for foreigners. For example, a private university may offer a flat rate, while a public university may raise the cost for international applicants, making the check the same.

Joint and Separate Universities in America
While in the past most American universities were for men or for women only, today the vast majority offer a co-educational option. See booklets and other information pamphlets that universities in America always provide for university applicants to check the percentage of students of different genders.

U.S. universities give fairly detailed information to their applicants. Before choosing a university, you should read all offers and decide on the basis of concrete facts and figures. The university’s reputation and specialization are also important. Some universities specialize in technical fields, others in the humanities, others in medicine, etc. In each category of universities there are good worthy institutions that will provide education and give the opportunity to realize yourself in a particular field.
