Varsity Basketball 2011-12 Red North Conference Champions!

Congrats to the Boys Varsity Basketball team for winning the Conference Championship with a 41-38 victory over Foreman on Tuesday. This is the first title for Taft Basketball in 10 years! Way to go guys, keep up the hard work!

Free Money!

The School of Technology at Eastern Illinois University has two scholarships available for current Taft seniors. Students attending Eastern in the Fall who plan to major in Career and Technical Education (i.e., teach business, family and consumer sciences, or technology) are eligible to apply. Juniors & Parents of Juniors - IMPORTANT INFO

The Illinois State Board of Education has recently announced that the ACT Writing component has been eliminated from the required PSAE which is administered to all juniors in the state of Illinois in April. Students who are seeking admission to universities and colleges that require a writing score must take the ACT exam on a national test date in addition to the PSAE that is being administered in the spring. (Please note that taking the PSAE at Taft in April is a CPS graduation requirement.) Click for details.

Spring Driver Education Registration

Registration for the Spring Term of Taft's Drivers Education Program will be held on Saturday, April 14th at 9am. Interested and qualified students should bring their Social Security card and birth certificate and must be escorted by their parents. Parents should bring a valid state ID or drivers license. See the Drivers Ed page (from the menu above, under Students) for further information.

Juniors & Parents of Juniors - IMPORTANT INFO

In April 2012, all Taft juniors are required to take the PSAE (Prairie State Achievement Exam) of which the ACT is the day 1 test. Colleges use the ACT score to determine eligibility. Top ACT scores earn students scholarship money for their education. Studies have shown that prep classes significantly increase students' ACT composite scores. Taft is offering ACT Prep Classes for English, Reading, Math, and Science. Click for details.

Get Ready for Next Year - Longer School Day & Longer School Year

Under the leadership of our Mayor, Rahm Emanuel and the CEO of Chicago Public Schools, Jean-Claude Brizard, the Board of Education has adopted a plan which will lengthen the school day for all CPS high school students by 46 minutes and would lengthen the school year for all CPS students by two weeks (10 additional school days).
